No One is Running for Mayor in This Canadian Town

A small town in Saskatchewan, Canada, is facing an unusual challenge ahead of its November municipal election: no candidates have stepped up to run for mayor. The town of Kyle is seeking a replacement for Mayor George Williams, who is retiring this year, but so far, the position remains vacant without any declared candidates.

The town’s officials, including Chief Administrative Officer Amber Dashney, report that multiple calls for nominations have gone out, but no one has come forward. Alongside the open mayoral role, a seat on the Town Council is also vacant and lacks interested nominees, adding to the town’s electoral uncertainty.

Mayor Williams, who was elected in November 2021, will leave a gap in leadership as his term ends.
