Spotify has recorded a 135% increase in gaming playlists created by Nigerian users between 2022 and 2023. This shows growth in the integration of music streaming and expanding gaming culture. It also aligns with Statista’s prediction that Nigeria’s video games market will reach $514 million this year, highlighting the rising popularity of gaming in the region.
According to Spotify, the platform has tailored its offerings to meet the needs of gamers, enabling them to discover music and create personalized playlists for gaming sessions. At the forefront of this experience is Spotify’s “Powered By Music” playlist, which allows users to customize soundtracks that complement their gaming style and enhance their immersive experience.
Nigeria’s video game market is projected to continue growing at an annual rate of 8.36%, reaching an estimated $654 million by 2027. Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s head of music for sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Nigerian gamers, noting that Spotify’s curated gaming playlists are designed to bring a personalized audio experience.
