Meta is building its own AI-driven search engine to reduce its reliance on competitors like Google and Microsoft Bing.
According to a report from The Information, Meta’s AI search engine project has been in development for around eight months, spearheaded by senior engineering manager Xueyuan Su. Meta has also been actively gathering and indexing web data to establish a robust search infrastructure. In a strategic move, the company has partnered with Reuters for a multi-year agreement, allowing Meta’s AI to integrate Reuters’ news articles in its responses, therefore boosting content reliability and timeliness.
At the moment, Meta’s AI serves approximately 185 million weekly users across its social media platforms and depends on Google and Bing for current updates on news, sports, and finance.
