University lecturers across the country have begun a nationwide strike following the government’s failure to honour a previously negotiated agreement. The strike, which started on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, has halted academic activities in universities, leaving lecture halls empty and disrupting scheduled exams.
The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) confirmed that its members are protesting the government’s failure to implement the promised salary increases, which were part of a return-to-work formula agreed upon on September 26, 2024.
Outside the closed university gates, students gathered in groups, expressing frustration and uncertainty about their academic future.
