Omanyala qualifies for semis in Oregon despite hurdles

Africa fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala overcame fatigue to qualify for the semifinals of the World Athletics Championships 100m at the Hayward Field in Oregon on Saturday.

Omanyala, who managed a third place finish clocking 10.10 seconds behind New Zealand’s Edward Osei-Nketia (10.08, NR) and Sani Brown in 9.98 secured the much-awaited qualification to the next stage.

The 26-year-old who got a late visa clearance to travel to the United States on Thursday evening had only 3 hours after landing to clear customs, get to the arena, pick up accreditation, warm up, then compete with the other athletes.

According to the IOC Olympics Schedule, the semis will be happening at Hayward Field at 1800hours (0400 hrs local time).
