Governor Sakaja Launches Safe House Initiative for Gender-Based Violence Victims

Nairobi’s Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced a new initiative to build safe houses for victims of gender-based violence (GBV) in the city, starting with a facility in Gigiri. The move is part of a broader effort to provide support and protection for survivors as GBV cases continue to rise.
While speaking at a church service in Nairobi on Sunday, Governor Sakaja shared that the first safe house is already operational in Gigiri and encouraged victims to seek help.
This announcement follows President William Ruto’s recent statement expressing concern over the increasing cases of femicide in Kenya. The President emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing violence against women.
