Some supermarkets are still selling unga between KES 180 and KES 230 despite the government subsidy that took effect on Wednesday.

A 2kg packet of maize flour is supposed to retail at KES 100 following a directive by the government on Wednesday.

“This programme of a subsidy of approximately KES 105 per 2kg pack of maize meal is meant to lower the cost of living for vulnerable households as we look for a sustainable solution to the recurrent rising prices of unga every election,” said President Uhuru Kenyatta.
